26 May 2016
The 25th of May marks the Africa Day which celebrates the day when the Organization of African Unity (OAU), the precursor to the African Union (AU), was formed in 1963.
It acknowledges the progress that Africans have made, while reflecting upon the common challenges the continent faces in a global environment.
The African Union, comprising of 53 member states, has brought together the continent of Africa to collectively address the challenges it faces such as armed conflict, climate change, and poverty.
In this regard, Emang Basadi and Fitness Quest found it fit to collaborate together in commemorating Africa Day under the theme , Together as one.
Speaking at the commemoration, Ms Goitseone Vinton of Emang Basadi said the organisation was mandated to fight for the rights of women in the country.
She said according to the african culture women’s duties were to take care of the children and the family to bring up united and responsible citizens.
For his part, the director of Fitness Quest Mr Timon Moyo highlighted that it was best for Africans to know the importance of exercising and eating well so as to keep healthy.
He said through exercising and eating well, non-communicable diseases such as high blood, obesity and other heart related diseases could be avoided.
He said the event would be hosted annually, adding that more participants and sponsors would be invited . ENDS
