Lobatse beef festival June 4

25 May 2016

For the past three years, it has been a norm that come the last weekend of May, all roads lead to Lobatse Town Park for the beef festival.

This year organisers had to postpone the festival  to June 4 at the same venue.

According to its founder, Barolong Seboni, they postponed the event following the buffalo incursion in the Southern District.

Seboni said the buffalo incursion, which had instigated immediate stoppage movement and killing of all cloven hoofed animals in Zone 11 was the main reason for the postponement.

However, he said he was happy that the restrictions had since the beginning of the month been lifted and thus able to set June 4, as the date for the largely known as beef fest event.

Seboni said the festival is meant to promote and position Lobatse as a vibrant town with the amenities necessary for business and economic growth as well as to showcase Lobatse as a major international player in the beef industry.

The festival’s mission, Seboni said is to also celebrate Botswana beef and its contribution to the country’s economy as well as to strengthen community spirit and create a vibe through the celebration of beef.

He implored meet lovers and revellers to come in large numbers for an outing.

At the same time Seboni said the event promotes local business as there is an opportunity for small businesses to buy stalls.

“We confirm participation from exhibitors in the form of modern cuisine and traditional beef dishes that they will be selling. This includes; braai, seswaa, spit braai, biltong, stews accompanied by salads and pap and mabele”, he said.

He indicated that stalls are however not restricted to meal products only as lifestyle products distributors are also encouraged to buy stalls.

He highlighted that normal tickets are for sale at Flight Connect and all web tickets outlets adding that couple tickets are going for P300 and individual normal tickets going for P200 while kids below the age of 14 years  get in for P50.

The ticket, he said, entitles one to three beef meals which are pap or mabele and seswaa, pap and braai meat, serobe, mokwetjepe, mokoto or tlhako.

He said the event sponsor being Flight Connect will ferry patrons for free from Riverwalk car wash area to Lobatse Town Park from 12 noon adding that the mini bus returns at 12 midnight from Lobatse.

“We promise Batswana tight security given the continuous support from the Lobatse Police and the appointed security company”, he said.

He said the event also has a very interesting line up of live artists and DJs to suit the needs for all ages. ENDS
