Security company complaints worrisome

25 May 2016

Office of the Francistown West MP, has expressed displeasure at some security companies that are said to be mistreating their employees by paying them late.

The concern was echoed by the senior administrative research officer at the office, Mr Selelo Tsheko in an interview with BOPA on Thursday.

This comes after his office received complaints from some security officers against nine security companies, over delay to pay them and in some cases vanishing completely without paying them.

“As a former policeman I have had to employ my investigative skills in some cases to track down these security company owners and show them that running away with their employees salaries is a grave injustice and they ought to pay.

Nonetheless, in all the labour related issues that have been reported to our office, we have had a 100 per cent success rate in solving such cases and employees concerned were paid accordingly,” he said.

Furthermore, he stated that there were other labour related issues concern mining companies and that recently the Nortex retrenchment issues were successfully solved and the affected employees paid all their dues after his office negotiated with management.

Many people, Mr Tsheko said continued to visit their office seeking assistance in different matters ranging from complaints against poor service delivery in some governments departments, social and community development issues and any other issues.”

Sometimes we receive complaints from people from far places such as Serowe, Palapye, Mathangwane, Sebina, Tutume, Masunga and other villages in the North-East and we assist them whole heartedly without complaining that they are not from our constituency. We have, through the Francistown West Constituency private office of Monarch Community Development Centre assisted hundreds of people to access government poverty alleviation programmes for free,” he said.

Mr Tsheko also stated that his office often made available all types of forms for Citizen Entrepreneurial Development Agency, Youth Development Fund and school forms for brigades and technical schools to the youth for easy access.

He said apart from availing the forms, they help make copies and print documents for people provided those documents showed that the proposed project could change that person's life for the better. ENDS
