Music Legend, Jeff Matheatau says Presidential competitions have played a significant role in promoting the contemporary music industry.
Officially opening the central region President’s day contemporary music competitions in Francistown on Saturday, Matheatau applauded the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture (MYSC) through the Department of Arts and Culture for undertaking President’s day competitions and showcasing Batswana’s talent in the creative arts.
He said the objective of the competitions is to unearth talent particularly amongst the youth and keep youth meaningfully engaged to prevent them to indulge in drugs and other toxic substances.
Matheatau encouraged young people to promote their artistic talents at all levels.
He further applauded MYSC for its good gesture emphasizing that if business entities could help support arts in Botswana that can motivate artists and also help in the diversification of the economy of the country.
Matheatau said although President’s day competitions assist in developing arts and motivating young artists, more could be done.
He urged the business community to support arts in the country.
The youth district coordinator, Minkie Bokole encouraged the youth to take advantage of the competitions to showcase their talent.
She said that in the competitions everyone who is participating is a winner because they have come to show their talent and urged them to take registration into account so that they do not miss deadlines.
Furthermore she said contemporary music that includes back track new corner live band, live band and disc jockey has improved because those who registered in new corner live band last year has now got into the live band.
Itekeng ward councilor, Lesego Kwambala urged participants to take their music seriously because it is their brand. He said they should stop a tendency of using alcohol in their shows because such leads to them losing their dignity. ENDS
