RB2 celebrates with children

24 May 2016

RB2 celebrated its 24th anniversary with Childline Botswana on Friday.

A manager at the Department of Broadcasting Services (BDS) radio station, Christopher Modibedi, said they chose to spend time with children to give them a sense of belonging.

He said the RB2 team intended to shower the children with the love that every child needed.

He said moral support was essential to a child’s growth.

He added that the RB2 team would also have a chance to appreciate the life of a child at an orphanage.

Modibedi said the celebration was consistent with one of the pillars of Vision 2016, a compassionate, just and caring nation.

Onkgopotse Thobega, a social worker at Childline Botswana, appreciated RB2 for the love and care it showed the children.

He said children needed happy people around them to enlighten their lives.

He disclosed that they had 25 children aged 10 years and under.

Thobega said some of the children came from abusive families while others were neglected with parents either imprisoned or psychologically unfit.

He observed that family members no longer have a support structure.

He said aunts and uncles do not take custody of their relatives’ children hence they need public support and protection.

The day featured a live broadcast which allowed the children to speak on radio.

The RB2 team also engaged in plenty of games with the children. ENDS
