Education crucial in information age

24 May 2016

Kgosi Seate Marumo of Moshana has urged young Batswana to take advantage of the free education provided to all citizens by government and carve themselves a bright future.

Speaking during the commemoration of Vision 2016 pillar of an educated and informed nation in Moshana on Friday, he warned that life without education in the modern age was difficult.

He explained that the dispensation was unheard of in other African states.

Kgosi Marumo also encouraged parents to create time to assist their children with home work and attend PTA meetings.

Kgosi Marumo also encouraged parents to provide children with proper school uniform. He said proper uniform boosted children’s confidence, which could further translate into good grades.

Another speaker and Kanye Administrative Authority chairperson, Mr Thamiso Chabalala applauded the church for contributing to the education of the nation.

He said the country was ranked among the poorest in the world at Independence, but the church helped build schools such as Moeding and St Joseph colleges.

As a result, he said the country had made strides in the education sector and became an envy of many.

He explained that the teaching fraternity boasted highly qualified personnel, adding that one should have at least a diploma to become a teacher.

Tsalano Moje and Kgotso Motloutse of Kanye’s Maisantwa Primary School stole the show with a Setswana poem titled, Kgalemelang Basimanenyana ba a Ntlwaela. ENDS
