Methodist assists Athlone hospital

Assistant Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, Advocate Sadique Kebonang has lauded Methodist Church of Southern Africa-Women fellowship for extending love and care to the less privileged in the community.

Speaking during a high tea fund raising event organised by the women’s fellowship, Lobatse circuit to raise funds for the upkeep of Athlone childrens ward, he said the move was commendable as they assisted to close gaps where government was falling short to render services.

He implored them to extend a helping hand to other community members who were less fortunate to give them dignified lives.  Furthermore, advocate Kebonang who is also the Lobatse Member of Parliament said, today’s societies were faced with challenges such as alcohol, drug abuse and girl child abuse. 

He condemned such practices, calling on the church to help in finding a solution to the problems.

The MP encouraged them to promote God’s teachings especially on behavioural change. Advocate Kebonang said women’s fellowship forums should be fully utilised to target all the vulnerable groups and impart skills and knowledge to rebuild their lives. 

In her welcome remarks, Church elder, Ms Dorcus Mothusi said women’s fellowship was formed in 2007 with the intention of uplifting people’s lives to live dignified lives. She urged community members to support them to perform their duties accordingly. 

When giving the objectives of the women’s fellowship, Ms Buni Ditshwane said their aim was to empower the youth with life skills for the betterment of their future as well as offer spiritual guidance to all patients and elderly people.

She said they also offered parenting skills as most youth were vulnerable to alcohol and drug abuse.

Moreover, she said they aimed to show love and care to less privileged people in different communities by buying them food groceries and other necessities. Activities of the day included, lessons on parenting, importance of prayer, wellness and nutrition. ENDS
