World Intellectual Property Day Thursday
24 May 2016
The World Intellectual Property Day event is billed for Limkokwing University in Gaborone on Thursday.
A press release from Companies and Intellectual Property Authority (CIPA) states that the event will be held under the theme: Digital Creativity: Culture Re-imagined.
“This year’s theme challenges all to retrospect on and discuss how the growth of the creative industries, particularly in the fields of music, film, literary works, art and photography is affected by advances in technologies such as social media, smartphones and development of apps,” states the release.
The event will feature industry players who will deliberate on the challenges and opportunities affecting their field in the digital era, including production, distribution and access to works.
“The day gives all an opportunity to celebrate the contribution of intellectual property to innovation, cultural evolution and entrepreneurship and it also provides an opportunity to create awareness and greater understanding about the role of intellectual property as a catalyst for development and creation of wealth.”
It further gives all a chance to link their everyday lives to the existing creations and opportunities to develop more in the changing world environment. ENDS
