Residents of Ralekgetho in Moshupa/Manyana constituency have praised government for its efforts in poverty eradication.

Residents echoed their views during a kgotla meeting addressed by the acting Minister for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration, Mr Dikgang Makgalemele recently.

The beneficiaries of the Poverty Eradication Programmes in the constituency commended the President for turning their lives around, stating that the government has very good initiatives and programmes that are aimed at improving the lives of Batswana therefore they should take advantage of such programmes.

They commended the government for a job well done in empowering Batswana through poverty eradication programmes and other alternative packages.

Most of the communities in their area said they depended on livestock and arable farming but were disheartened by changes in rainfall patterns which, they said, had frustrated government efforts in promoting the agricultural sector.

Mr Makgalemele said government intended  to strengthen the farmer assistance programmes to improve farm productivity.

 He said the Integrated Support Programme for Arable Agriculture Development (ISPAAD) was introduced to address challenges facing arable farming sector.

 It was envisaged that the performance of the arable sub-sector would be greatly improved by fencing fields, establishing agricultural service centres as well as assisting arable farmers to acquire requisite inputs and draught power to undertake tillage operations. ENDS
