Poloka gets new building
22 May 2016
President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama has implored Poloka residents in the Shoshong constituency to take education seriously.
President Khama was speaking at the ground breaking ceremony of the Poloka kindergarten building.
Limkokwing University of Creative Technology donated P50 000 towards construction of the building.
President Khama urged parents to help teachers improve results.
He noted that it was not the duty of government alone, but for all people to make sure that students performed better.
He said two years back Poloka Primary School was producing satisfactory results with a 100 per cent pass rate, but they dropped to 70 per cent and hopefully with the good gesture showed by Limkokwing they would strive for better results.
President Khama said Office of the President donated a day care classroom to Poloka Primary School and he appreciated that Limkokwing donated towards the centre’s improvement.
Limkokwing also donated 300 school bags and 300 water bottles to the school, while the Office of the President donated 30 chairs and 30 tables to be used at the school.
The President also donated football kit and balls, blankets for the elderly and a chair to Kgosi Moatlhodi Selathwa. Kgosi Selathwa of Poloka decried lack of electricity and shortage of government vehicles.
For his part, Limkokwing University associate director-International Development, Mr Philisani Amos said they believed in empowering the youth with an integrated approach of partnering with stakeholders in the education sector in changing the mind-set of the young generation.
Mr Amos said in response to the call for the internalisation of education through partnerships by the Ministry of Education and Skills Development, the university decided to support the ‘adopt a school’ initiative.
Therefore, in 2014 during their Christmas tree lighting event, they pledged P50 000 to Poloka pre-school. ENDS
