President calls for diligence
22 May 2016
President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama says public servants should be available at all times to assist the public.
He said officers should serve the public diligently and not only serve them prior to the President’s visits.
President Khama was responding to comments by Kgosi Gomolemo Molebatsi of Majwaneng on May 19.
Kgosi had raised a concern that public servants only assisted them when they heard that the President would visit their village.
Kgosi Molebatsi said officers gave them services promptly when they heard that the President was visiting.
President Khama encouraged the district commissioner and the council chairperson to find out why residents were not serviced properly.
He said the public servants should show zeal to work.
President Khama assured Kgosi Molebatsi that he would see what to do to help them build the kgotla shelter.
The President donated a chair to Kgosi Molebatsi, a football kit and balls for a football team at Majwaneng, 30 chairs for Majwaneng kgotla and blankets for the elderly and underprivileged residents.
Earlier on, chairperson of Majwaneng Village Development Committee (VDC) Mr Kealebetse Leinane complained about shortage of accommodation for teachers in his village.
He said the primary school in his village only had three teachers’ quarters’ and some of the teachers stayed at Ratholo while some rented out houses in the village. He also complained that some of the students walk eight kilometres everyday from Ratholo to school in Majwaneng.
In response, the Minister of Transport and Communications Mr Tshenolo Mabeo said there a bus had been given a permit to transport students from Majwaneng to Ratholo. ENDS
