Women in farming Expo Saturday
22 May 2016
Unitech Farming will, on May 28, stage the first ever Women in Farming Expo at Serokolwane Lawns to promote farming among women.
Briefing the media on May 19, Unitech Farming managing director, also organiser of the expo, Ms Pearl Ranna said the spirit of farming should be instilled in women and kick out stereotypes that farming was boring.
The expo would offer women an opportunity to exhibit their products from animal feeds and livestock, adding that through it they hoped to inspire women to go in to farming.
Ms Ranna said experts from different fields would host workshops to motivate attendants and share knowledge on horticulture, agro business, cattle rearing and other topics in agriculture.
She said she believed women could drive the nation hence knowledge should be instilled in them so that they could empower others in future.
The organiser said women faced challenges because they lacked advice and knowledge in farming, noting that the expo provided a platform for women to interact with experts and other fellow women on how to run a business.
“We have invited men to attend the Expo but only as spectators and support system for women. This is our time to shine as women and show people what we have accomplished,” she added.
Various farmers across the country had been invited to showcase their farm produce. ENDS
