Orapa Classic Cycling Challenge this weekend

With their event dubbed “Bikes for Education”, the Orapa Cycling club will on Sunday host the Orapa Classic Cycling Challenge in Orapa along the East Gate road for a charitable cause.

According to Debswana human resources manager and member of the Local Organising Committee, Tebatso Hule, the event will start at 6 am and expected to finish before dusk.

He noted that registration is on and the points are the Ultimate Cycle base and the Bike shop in Orapa, whilst the online registration will continue until Friday noon whereas late registration will be hiked by P100to make it P300.

Hule alluded that the races were divided according to distance, age and corporate designation, hence the entry fees differ.

The entry fee for the main race of 115KM is P200; the short race of 55KM is also P200, while the fun race for kids up to 12 years of 5KM is free as well as the fun race of 10KM.

The corporate teams' category which can be made up of  five people is P2500.

Hule added that their intention is to produce bicycles for disadvantaged children who walk excessive distances to access schools from lands in Boteti Sub-district.

He further mentioned that they were yet to meet with the Boteti social community development office to help in the identification of the most deserving beneficiaries.

Hule noted that they anticipate holding the cycling event annually, each with a different theme in accordance with their mission.

Furthermore, Hule said the event would be graced by leaders from the business and civil community in Boteti, with an expectation of cyclists from across the country such as Palapye, Gaborone, Jwaneng, Phikwe and Francistown, amongst other places.

Additionally, Hule expressed his most warm gratitude to the sponsors of the event citing that the gesture was a true reflection of the Vision 2016 pillar of ‘A just,compassionate and caring nation’ as well as Debswana core values of  ‘Show we care and Be passionate.’

The race is sponsored by Debswana, Weighty Equipment Repairs and Maintenance Solutions (WERMS) Southern Africa, Motion Metrics and  Naledi Motors in Francistown. ENDS
