From Khawa Dune Challenge to Dakar

Vincent Crosbie took to Khawa Dune Challenge and rode 100 kilometres on the dunes.

A rider of repute, Crosbie used the challenge as a preparation for his upcoming race where he looks forward to write history and fly the Botswana flag at the world’s most difficult race, the Dakar Rally.

He will be the first Motswana to participate in the famous Dakar Rally where over 250 motor bike riders will be competing. Crosbie said in an interview that he had fun saying though he had a puncher, he fought hard to finish the race.

“All I aim for at the Dakar Rally is to be in the top 40 of the bikers and I would have made a mark for Botswana and all the riders from here”, he said, showing confidence that indeed he is determined to go for the much anticipated race.

Crosbie (25) who hails from Serowe said he enjoyed the ride on the sand dunes and now he is looking forward to various activities before heading for the Dakar Rally in 2017.
World champions will be there and I will do the best I can to hold Botswana flag high, he said.

The 2017 Dakar Rally will be the 35th running of the event and the seventh successive year that the event is held in South America.

The event will start on January 5 and finish on January 20 after 15 stages of competition, which will comprise a total distance of over 8 500 kilometres.

The route, which will pass through North West Argentina’s canyons and sandy valleys, Salar de Uyuni, or the dunes of the Atacama Dessert will require skillful driving as well the careful management of mechanical aspects.
