Red Cross committs to serving humanity

Red Cross and Red Cross Movement worldwide ensure that they keep commitment to humanity every day through voluntarism.

They do that before, during and after a disaster, health crisis or conflicts, they are local and independent and impartial.

This was said by councillor Gothataaone Phologolo of Ntsweng West ward when giving keynote address at worldwide event that marks a celebration of the principles of the international Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement in Kanye on Friday.

The theme of the day was “everywhere for everyone.” Councillor Phologolo said the theme was relevant considering the status of the country and the crisis in securing employment for youth and general public.

Mr Phologolo said being everywhere for everyone means supporting marginalised groups such as orphans and vulnerable children as well as refugees and asylum seekers. He noted that it meant staying to support people in need, even many were running away. 

He said the Red Cross is known worldwide for its track record in humanitarian work that includes provision of services such as disaster management and preparedness, support for orphans and vulnerable children, first aid and social services.

“We have seen Botswana Red Cross act as a force for positive changes in communities where it is needed most’’, he said.  He further appealed to the youth to embrace the spirit of voluntarism as the key to the future of mankind, adding that there was no better sense of personal worth than the one that came with being able to save a life.   In Kanye he explained that
