Restructuring underway to suit market needs

Human Resource Development Council (HRDC) acting chief executive officer, Dr Patrick Molutsi says they are in the process of restructuring some programmes to suit market needs.Dr Molutsi was speaking at the ICT sector committee meeting on Friday.He said some fields required professional certificates for one to practice. Therefore, graduates under certain fields were faced with challenges because they were required to produce professional certificates, which they did not have.
Again, he said unemployment data in Botswana indicated that business and finance graduates filed had the largest unemployed graduates followed by ICT. As such, he Dr Molutsi said they engaged ICT consultants to contribute ideas on how ICT could be used to the optimum to benefit the industry. He indicated that the ICT sector was one of the most exceptional committees among the 12 committees under HRDC having been able to convene meetings with ICT heads of departments in different institutions.
Furthermore, Dr Molutsi said the committee met with the Ministry of Education and Skills Development to discuss how they could work together to fully equip teachers in ICT. Thus, he commended the committee for their hard work and encouraged them to also engage the Ministry of Transport and Communications in future.
ICT sector committee chairperson, Mr Norman Sebonego said the sector had been vibrant and committed Mr Sebonego said ICT experts should train personnel and upskill future IT technicians to augment the sector. He highlighted that ICT was the future hence the meeting with HRDC would make planning for the sector easy. Mr Sebonego noted that ICT personnel were agents of transformation advising fellow IT consultants to upskill themselves. ENDS
