France MPs pledge support

Members of French National Assembly visiting Botswana have pledged their support for Ntlo Ya Dikgosi.

Speaking during a courtesy call on the chairperson of Ntlo-Ya-Dikgosi, Puso Gaborone on May 10, the head of delegation, Mr Jean-Marie Tetart said his country was ready to assist Ntlo-Ya-Dikgosi with whatever assistance they may need to enable them to fullfil their mandate.

Mr Jean-Marie Tetart who is also an MP and chairperson of the France/Botswana Friendship Group said after the brief about the role of Ntlo-Ya-Dikgosi, that they appreciated its mandate in unifying the nation.

The delegation was keen to know the role played by Ntlo-Ya-Dikgosi, its challenges and how they complement Parliament with regard to issues of governance.

Kgosi Puso had earlier on briefed the French delegation that the institution of traditional leadership is a unifying factor among the community and responsible for the welfare of the nation as well as linking the government and its people.

He said Ntlo-Ya-Dikgosi was also responsible for ensuring that there was cultural preservation and molding of the community into responsible citizens by combating crime in different territories.

The delegation was accompanied by France Ambassador to Botswana, Ms Anne De La Blache who advised Kgosi Puso to state in writing the kind of assistance Ntlo-Ya-Dikgosi needed.  ENDS
