Seventh Day Adventist Church honours senior citizens
11 May 2016
Speaker of the National Assembly, Ms Gladys Kokorwe, has hailed the Seventh Day Adventist church for appreciating the elderly through an even organised by South Botswana Union Conference on May 8.
She stated that the day for the elderly was welcome, adding that “the Bible commands, you shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
She said the role of the church was important as it went beyond conversion of people and that should include caring for welfare of the community.
The day was attended by elderly people from Gaborone, Lobatse, Molepolole, Mochudi, Thamaga, Moshupa, Marantha and Ramotswa.
The church pastor, Dr Olaotse Gabasiane, said the mission of the church was to encourage the elderly to know that they had potential and play valuable role in the society.
South Botswana Union Conference director, Ms Susan Williams, said the church recognised the elderly people for the part they played in building Botswana.
One of the beneficiaries, Mr Motwana Suping of Magotlhwane said he was grateful for the day and wished they could be called once more for such a gathering as it helped them socialise and revitalise their memories as elders. ENDS
