 Karowe Diamond Mine has handed over Letlhakane Bus Rank Park to council officials.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, general manager of the mine, Mr Gerald Ndlovu said  he believed the park will come handy during events such as meetings and parties.

He said even though they have handed over the park, his company will continue working on improving the park by adding wireless Internet services to the area and transplanting big trees in other areas and re-planting them in the park.

When receiving the park, the assistant council secretary of Boteti Sub-district Ms Motshidisi Mmolawa thanked the Karowe Mine for their tireless efforts in making Letlhakane a better place.

She pointed out that Letlhakane is a dusty area and that this usually became a health hazard to people living next to the rank during activities such as political party rallies, adding the lawn planted on the park will reduce the dust in the area thus improving the health of residents.

Ms Mmolawa urged the mine officials to continue extending their helping hand to the community and ensuring that they stay a compassionate and caring company in 2016 and beyond.

She promised that the park will be well taken care of in ensuring that it does not turn into a white elephant.

Ms Mmolawa pointed out that a landscape company has been identified to ensure the well being of the park. She said as council officials, they will come up with ways in which the park will be used to benefit the community and at the same time preserving it.

For her part, the area councillor Ms Thato Modirwagale commended Karowe Mine for going an extra mile and taking heed of the President’s call of giving back to the community that they work in.

According to Ms Modirwagale, the bus rank is one of the many projects done by the mine to improve the livelihoods of Letlhakane residents and hoped that they will continue with their good deeds. ENDS
