Partnership bears fruit

A partnership between the Ministry of Agriculture and a business tycoon, Mr Zakir Khan, has culminated in a two bed-roomed house for a needy family.

Speaking during the official house handover in Kgwakgwe Ward in Kanye on Saturday, the Minister of Agriculture, Mr Patrick Ralotsia, hailed the spirit of philanthropy demonstrated by his ministry and the business magnate.

Minister Ralotsia, also Kanye North MP,  thanked President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama for the Presidential Housing Appeal initiative noting that he had laid a foundation that touched the lives of many. 

He said the initiative had a positive impact on the lives of many unfortunate Batswana. 

Mr Ralotsia therefore challenged  capable Batswana to help the less fortunate in every way possible, adding that many had heeded the President’s appeal.

He said the house promoted good health as it would protect the family against unfavourable weather conditions.

He said the house would touch the lives of the siblings and change them to the better as they were capable of being leaders of tomorrow.

Mr Ralotsia commended social workers for doing a sterling job in assessing the less privileged but however challenged them to consider those in dire need first to avert complaints by envisaged beneficiaries.

He encouraged those blessed with wealth to help the less fortunate. 

Mr Ralotsia encouraged Batswana to work hard to attain wealth so that they would have more than enough for themselves as well as being able to help the under-privileged. 

For his part, Mr Khan said assistance no matter how small it might appear to be could help rescue the beneficiary from a difficult situation.

He said he stalled some of his projects to give way to assist the disadvantaged family build a house.

He challenged Batswana to unite and help each other in times of need, adding that if people could help each other poverty would flee the country.

He said helping each other pleased God the most. Mr Khan pledged to connect a stand pipe for the needy family. 

He said he had already arranged with Water Utilities Corporation authorities to connect a reading metre to enable him connect a stand pipe and they responded to the affirmative. ENDS
