Roving torch to heal rift
05 May 2016
Kgosi Ikalafeng Senwedi says the roving torch will end the differences between the people of Lesenepole and Matolwane.
Receiving the torch at Lesenepole village on Friday, Kgosi Senwedi said the torch was a sign of unity thus would end the differences between his people.
He said after this activity he expected the two parties, those who subscribed to the village name Lesenepole and those who subscribed to the name Matolwane to be one thing and work together towards the development of their village.
He said the two parties should understand that they were one people being the Batswapong ba ga Mapulane.
“We welcome the torch in Matolwane kgotla in the village of Lesenepole,” he said.
Despite this, the two parties sat separately in the kgotla with those who subscribe to the name Lesenepole sitting on one side and those of Matolwane on the other side.
The area councillor, Mr Opelo Modimowaitse expressed his disappointment on his people for failing to work together to make this activity a success.
He said a national activity such as this one called for them to work together harmoniously and put their differences aside.
However Mr Jobe Mothowaeng of Matolwane faction said the divisions between the two groups still existed despite that the village issue was resolved through the ballot last year.
He said Lesenepole people made preparations for this day on their own without consulting Matolwane people and went on to draw a programme that excluded Matolwane leadership.
On the other hand Lesenepole VDC chairperson Mr Tirelo Montsho said the VDC called a kgotla meeting with the intention to choose a committee that will prepare for this day but those from Matolwane ward did not turn up. Ends
