Euphoria hits Khawa

05 May 2016

Kgosi Piet Manyoro of Khawa in Kgalagadi south has praised President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama for his philanthropic deeds.

His comments followed President Khama’s donations of food hampers and gifts on Tuesday.

Kgosi Manyoro noted that since its inception, Khawa Dune Challenge and Cultural Festival had attracted a large number of people from around the country.

He added that the event had also grown and had given their village recognition from beyond borders.

Again, he said ever since President Khama started asking for donations for the less privileged members of communities, business people had also been forthcoming to assist them with different donations.

He added that even private companies had come on board, which was symbolised by a P120 000.00 cheque donated to the Village Development Committee (VDC) by Botswana Insurance Holdings Limited (BIHL).

Old Mutual donated 40 pairs of shoes and 40 jackets to pupils and promised to buy them school uniform.

Uni-Span donated a grand stand worth P85 000 to be used at the football ground and also promised another with a seating capacity of 112 school children.

After donations, President Khama and his entourage hosted a soup kitchen for residents.

Meanwhile, the Khawa Dune Challenge is posed to start in earnest over the weekend where spectators will be treated to different activities. Ends
