Bracket B are this year’s Botswana Tertiary Student Sports Association (BOTESSA) athletics national champions.
Bracket B, comprising athletes from the University of Botswana, Limkokwing, Botswana International University of Science and Technology and Botho University made their intention of winning the championship clear by dominating most races.
They accumulated 212 points, winning 23 gold, seven silver and 26 bronze medals. Bracket C, a select team of athletes from technical colleges, finished on position two with 154 points, scooping four gold, 24 silver and seven bronze medals.
Third position went to Bracket A, which represented colleges of education and institutes of health sciences, which accumulated 130 points winning six gold, 10 silver and eight bronze medals.
The highlight was the 100 metres race where Ontiritse Molapisi of UB outclassed Karabo Budzwani of IHS. The latter was thought to be the easy favourite in the race.
Molapisi managed to clock 12.76 followed by Budzwani with 14.76 and UB runner, Moitshepi Mpoeleng, with 15.70.
Molapisi proved that her win was no fluke when she easily won 200 metres with 25.56 while Botswana was relegated to position four with 28.05.
On position two was Thabo Muswere of UB with 27.41 followed by Amantle Monwa with 27.86. However Molapisi said she was not impressed with the times she recorded in both races.
“All is not lost, I have qualified for CUCSA (Confederation of University and College Sports Associations) games, and I am highly motivated to fully represent my country in the coming competition,“ she said.
In the men’s category, both the 100 metres and the 200 metres races were dominated by Ditiro Sebele of New Era. He clocked 10.89 in the 100 metres race followed by Thabo Motsokono of OCAAT with 11.24 and Rebelilwe Thwaanyane of UB who finished on position three with 11.44.
Sebele continued to shine in the 200 metres, finishing with a time of 21.53 followed by Motsokono with 22.09 and UB’s Norman Moyo who finished on position three with 22.19.
Sebele told BOPA that he was not impressed with his time due to wind on the day.
He said his personal best time is 10.50 in 100 metres. He said that he will continue to work hard in preparation for CUCSA games.
All athletes who finished on position one and two will represent the county at the forthcoming CUCSA games penciled for Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. ENDS
