BVF executive continues in office
25 Apr 2016
Botswana Volleyball Federation (BVF) extra-ordinary congress held in Gaborone on Saturday has given the federation’s executive committee permission to continue holding office until it produces audited financial report from last year.
The move came after the executive committee delayed to produce audited finances for 2015 which led to postponement of the federation’s elective annual general meeting.
BVF president, Daniel Molaodi explained to the extra-ordinary congress held at the National Stadium conference room that finances were not audited on time due to shortage of funds from the Botswana National Sports Commission (BNSC) to pay auditors. Molaodi was, however, unable to tell delegates when the process of auditing the finances would be completed, but explained that his committee had completed the unaudited report.
“My committee has over-stayed in office because the issue of audited financial report has delayed us to call for an elective congress.
It is a tricky situation. We have now called you to decide whether we should continue in office until we produce the audited report or you waiver the constitution and have us call an elective congress even though the audited report is not available yet,” Molaodi said.
However, the congress felt that it would be risky to allow the committee to present an unaudited report at an elective congress.
Therefore, they elected to allow the committee to continue holding office beyond its constitutional period until it was ready to produce an audited report. Meanwhile, Molaodi informed delegates that Mascom Wireless had agreed to sponsor the 2016 volleyball league for P1 million.
That is a reduction of P500 000 from last season.
“It is probably the last time Mascom will be sponsoring us therefore we are in the process of looking for sponsorships for next year,” Molaodi said.
Despite the reduced sponsorship, the BVF president stated that prize monies for positions one to four would remain unchanged.
He said the league champions would get P100 000, runners-up P70 000, third place P60 000, and fourth place P50 000.
Again, he said there would be a slight variation on prize monies for position five and below.
Molaodi said the top eight cup, which was sponsored by Mascom, would not be played this year.
Meanwhile, the congress ratified membership applications from two clubs, Selebi-Phikwe Volleyball Club and Goapele Volleyball Club from Maun. ENDS
