24 Apr 2016
The Ministry of Lands and Housing (MLH) permanent secretary, Mr Thato Raphaka has implored his staff to show commitment to promoting access to land.
Officially opening the ministry’s mini-convention at Majestic Five Hotel in Palapye, Mr Raphaka said their commitment was promoting access to land for tourism, agricultural, commercial development and housing.
He said employees should think about the broader portfolio responsibility when they perform their respective duties.
The mini-convention was held under the theme: Fifty years of service to the nation; united and proud.
Mr Raphaka said the mini-convention was a build up to the National Public Service Day that would be held in June.
He said last year his mnistry performed well in various categories including choir competitions and Work Improvement Teams (WITS).
He said this year his ministry should up the bar to give other ministries competition. He added that WITS projects that were to be presented should be aimed at promoting access to land, paving way for housing and economic development.
Furthermore he said his ministry has also contributed to 50 years of independence through the services it provides to the nation.
He noted that 50 years ago there were no land boards but the services relating to land management were.
He said employees in their individual capacity contributed to the development of the country in various ways.
He said Batswana built democracy through unity and harmony.
For her part, a turnkey housing scheme beneficiary, Ms Maungo Letamo said she was happy with the scheme as it provided her with the opportunity to have shelter.
She said the scheme was affordable as government provides all materials for the completion of the house.
She urged Batswana to make use of the scheme to develop their plots. ENDS
