Youth neglect their projects

20 Apr 2016

The tendency of neglecting  businesses by the youth funded by the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture under the programmes of Youth Development Fund (YDF) is a cause for concern. This was expressed by Serowe Sub-District coordinator in the same ministry, Mr Odiretsemang Molao, during a Kgotla meeting addressed by Minister of Foreign affairs and International Cooperation ,Dr Pelonomi Venson-Moitoi at Serowe on Wednesday.

Mr Molao said the funded youths have a tendency of neglecting their projects adding that during assessment points only a few youths were found at business sites and immediately after the assessment period elapsed they abandon their businesses. The coordinator urged the youths to take their businesses serious as it is their future and the only way to help the economy of this country.

He said Youth Development Fund received about 73 proposals from the youth from the Serowe South constituency in the previous financial year but only 63 were approved while 10 failed to meet the set standards.Mr Molao said YDF spent almost P6 million on those 63 approved proposals and indicated that those who failed are given feedback with full details of where they went wrong.

He said this is to help them when they want to make a second attempt on the programme. Mr Molao said funds obtained from YDF should not be squandered but used appropriately according to the proposal. He said they received 35 proposals from Serowe north and 34 from Serowe west in the 2014/2015 financial year.  END
