17 Apr 2016

The Botswana Integrated Sports Association (BISA) officially held its athletics finals in Francistown over the weekend.

The event had been illuminated by the mayor of City of Francistown, Silvia Muzila, BISA president Joshua Gaothobogwe, and the director of North region in the Ministry of Education and Skills Development (MoESD), Galeseke Mohube and other dignitaries from their respective departments.

They attracted different athletes in various field and track event from different junior and senior secondary schools from numerous regions. A total of 60 athletes will be chosen from the finals to represent the country in the Confederation of School Sport Associations of Southern Africa (COSSASA) that will be held in Namibia.

In her remarks, Muzila applauded the BISA organising committee for choosing the new Francistown Sports Complex, after it had hosted the successful 2015 Botswana Games and standing out to become the home ground for the senior national team, the Zebras.

She also commended the teachers for their persistent courage to unleash talent to represent the country in tournaments of this magnitude. The mayor also recognised some of the athletes that had been chosen from the BISA tournament and flourished to represent the country in the  Olympics games.

She mentioned renowned 800m runner, Glody Dube, 400m runner Amantle Montsho, and Olympic silver medallist 800m runner Nijel Amos, who still causes havoc in international competitions.

Muzila urged the athletes to exercise fairness in the competitions since it has stood out that some youth use drugs to enhance ability, thus congratulated BISA from keeping children away from such activities and unleashing talent.

BISA president Gaothobogwe noted that the association stands out to fulfil its mandate, despite some hitches such as  shortage of funds  regardless of being sponsored by the ministry of education. ENDS
