Young people neglect projects

17 Apr 2016

Tendency of neglecting  businesses by the youth  funded by  Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture under the programmes of Youth Development Fund (YDF) is a cause for concern.

The concern was expressed by Serowe Sub-district coordinator Mr Odiretsemang Molao  during a  Kgotla meeting addressed by the Minister of Foreign affairs and International Cooperation ,Dr Pelonomi Venson-Moitoi in Serowe.

Mr Molao said the funded youth have a tendency of neglecting their projects saying that during assessment points only few youth were found at business sites, added that even after assessment period elapsed the youth abandoned   their businesses.

The coordinator urged the youth to take their businesses serious as it was their future and the only way to help the national economy grow. He said YDF received about 73 proposals from the youth from Serowe South constituency in the previous financial year but only 63 were approved while 10 failed to meet the set standard.

Mr Molao said YDF spent almost P6 million on those 63 approved proposals and indicated that those who failed were given feedback with full details of where they went wrong.

He said this was to help them when they wanted to go for the second attempt on the programme. Mr Molao said funds obtained from YDF should not be squandered and should be used appropriately according to the proposal. He said they received 35 proposals from Serowe north and 34 from Serowe west in 2014/2015 fiscal year.
