Leadership cuts across sectors
17 Apr 2016
Leadership is a holistic spectrum, which arises from superior mental energies and motivational forces perceived from communication and behaviors that lacks fear but with courage and determination to achieve goals set.
This was said by the Assistant minister for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration Mr Dikgang Makgalemele in Marobela .
Officiating at a governance and leadership training one day workshop for Shashe West constituency village leaders and representatives, the assistant minister noted that often people perceived that leadership and governance applied to the government leadership only.
Mr Makgalemele said it was important that people in these committees should be in a better position to lead and guide the committee towards a successful achievement of their village.
The assistant minister further pointed out that leadership entailed the establishment of policies, therefore leaders should be able to be open to learning new things at any given time to add to the knowledge they already had.
This, he said, was going to help the committees they were leading to progress and even develop new ideas aimed at further development and success.
He said it was imperative that leaders should be people willing to share their skills and knowledge for development of others and progress of the committee, which in return would result in success of the whole society.
Mr Makgalemele suggested to the Shashe West leadership that at the end of the workshop, they should have learnt new things, which would help them do things differently at their villages and committees,
He said that the government was encouraging villages to come up with economic empowerment strategies per village aimed at job creation and poverty eradication amongst social concerns.
At the same time, he said they were also encouraging communities to embrace cluster development concept, which was aimed at urging businesses to support one another instead of only becoming competitors in the market.
The area legislator, who is also the Assistant Minister of Education and Skills Development , Mr Fidelis Molao said their intention was to equip community leaders with comprehensive knowledge and skills in the areas of leadership and governance and to prepare future leaders by equipping them with requisite knowledge and skills designated to enhance responsible leadership and governance.ENDS
