The Member of Parliament for Gabane-Mmankgodi, Major General Pius Mokgware says positive living is crucial in the fight against communicable diseases.

Major Gen Mokgware said this on Friday April 14 when delivering a speech at the Gabane Tuberculosis (TB) awareness campaign.

He said the war against diseases such as TB could be won if community members embraced positive living and eliminated risks which made them vulnerable to the disease.

In addition, he said those already affected should also adopt a positive attitude towards their circumstances in order to live long.

Major Gen Mokgware said being diagnosed with a disease did not condemn an individual to death, adding that people can live long if they take their health thoughtful.

He regretted that despite available messages about health, people still continued to fail to change their behaviour and embrace positive living.

Further, the area MP said diseases such as TB knew no boundaries, age, wealth or social status hence they could affect anyone.

Further, he said statistics showed that numbers of people infected by TB continued to grow despite prevalent messages.

TB coordinator in the Greater Gaborone area, Ms Cynthia Caiphus said this year, the world commemorateed TB awareness campaign under the theme Unite to end TB.

She said this called for all stakeholders across all spheres of life to play a role in eliminating the disease.

Therefore, she encouraged community members to always stay in adequately ventilated areas adding that TB thrived when a place was poorly ventilated.

Another speaker, Pastor Andrew Sebata of Revealed Word Ministries said the fight against TB called for all community members including churches to join hands. ENDS
