Diabo residents to acces services nearer

14 Apr 2016

Residents of Diabo catchment area near Mmathethe will soon enjoy goods and services from the Kanye Administrative Authority(KAA) as opposed to Good Hope which was rather too far for them.

The area Member of Parliament(MP) Dr Alfred Madigele informed the residents during a kgotla meeting he addressed at the settlement .

He said the decision would save the residents the distance they used to travel to Good Hope for services.Dr Madigele also informed residents that the local borehole had been closed due to public health considerations.

He said the borehole produced water with a high content of iron which was not unsuitable for human consumption.

He warned that if consumed, the water could cause oral or gastric cancer and teeth colouring, among others.

However, he said the Good Hope Sub District Council (GHSDC) would continue bowsing water to the area while they awaited a lasting solution to the problem.

Dr Madigele also revealed that the council was looking for alternative boreholes around the area to supply residents with portable water.

On other issues, Dr Madigele shared that Kgomokasitwa-Diabo, Mmathethe-Tsuaneng, Motlhalawakgomo-Lorolwane and Jwaneng –Maokane gravel roads would be maintained during the 2016/17 financial year.

He said the roads could have long been rehabilitated if it was not for tender delays.

He further told residents that they would also benefit from a government decision to upgrade all health posts and clinics across the country under NDP 11, therefore he encouraged them to be patient.Meanwhile, the GHSDC chairperson Ms Gladys Molefe has also confirmed the transfer of Diabo settlement to KAA.

However, she explained that they were still working on logistics with a view to assist the residents without further ado. ENDS
