AON to replace Letsholathebe burnt classrooms

11 Apr 2016

Senior public relations officer at the North East District Council Mr Caiphus Gabana announced on Monday April 11 that the Letsholathebe Primary School buildings that were burnt down five months ago were insured through AON Insurance Company.

He revealed that the company has been informed about the incident and has started the process of engaging a contractor to demolish the remaining structure and re-construct a new classroom block.

Two classrooms fell to the fire, which was allegedly caused by an electric fault. Furniture, text books and teaching aids were lost in the fire.

The school was given a tent to temporarily house pupils while investigations on the matter were still ongoing. Mr Gabana said the reconstruction will take effect as soon as a contractor is appointed.

He said investigations to establish the cause are still underway. For her part, the school head Ms Kemoneilwe Majoko said seeing the burnt structure is traumatising.

She stated that their lower class pupils are terrified of passing by the structure, for fear that it may fall on them.

Ms Majoko also pleaded that the AON insurance company and the North East District Council expedite the reconstruction, especially the demolition of the structure as soon as possible so that they can be able to move around the school freely. ENDS
