07 Apr 2016
The Private Secretary to the President (PSP) has introduced an initiative aimed at apprising government employees on key government commitments and employees’ contribution on the same.
The PSP’s letter to employees states that the initiative will bring employees and the employer closer to ensure that they are abreast with progress to date on the mandate, with the view towards the delivery of a common goal of efficiently delivering services to the public and improving the lives of Batswana.
The letter further states that it is important to reflect on successes and challenges within the public service and use these to better enhance service delivery going forward.
The PSP states that the mandate for the start of a new performance year, 2016/2017 will be to efficiently deliver service to the nation, driven by key focus areas such as job creation, eradication of extreme poverty, increase in education funding, elimination of mother-to-child transmission of HIV/AIDS and fighting corruption in all its manifestation.
The letter says some of the variables that government depends on such as people, finance and equipment as well as utilising resources optimally by collectively identifing collaboration opportunities within ministries and to be fully conversant with project monitoring and evaluation to ensure efficient delivery of all our projects.
The letter also stresses compliance to internal processes at all times, so as to curb corruption and crime and to report any deviations to the DCEC on 0800 700 100. With regards to the Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP), the letter states that ministries implementing the programme should expedite the adjudication process to ensure that expression of interest submissions and consequent tenders are completed within the shortest time possible whilst ensuring full compliance to set processes.
The PSP also implored every department to embrace all contributing factors towards the Economic Diversification Drive and Poverty Eradication.
This, he said, includes buying locally produced goods and services at all times, and supporting local companies with special attention deployed towards supporting beneficiaries of all government social upliftment programmes such as the Youth Development Fund, Poverty Eradication, Gender Affairs Grants, People with Disability, LIMID and others.
The letter further reminded employees to wear the national colours of Blue, Black and White every Friday until the independence day celebrations billed for 30 September as part of Botswana’s golden jubilee celebrations. Ends
