Modipane raises funds for kgotla shelter project

04 Apr 2016

Modipane residents have started fund raising for construction of the P25 000 kgotla sheleter.

Residents gathered at the kgotla over the weekend for a lunch and raffle draw that raised P6 000 towards the project.

Kgosi Fanuel Mokalake of Modipane urged residents to fully participate in the project, adding that a kgotla shelter gave a village dignity.

The project chairperson, Mr Kabelo Lebekwe, said they celebrated phase one of the project that was ground breaking in January. He said phase two of the project covered the laying down of foundation.

He thanked individuals, organisations and the business community for their valuable contribution.

Mr Lebekwe indicated that the purpose of the ruffle was to raise money for phase three of the project, which entailed assembling gum poles and roofing.

For his part, Councillor for Modipane, Mr Obitseng Malesela said the kgotla shelter was their BOT50 anniversary project, which will be officially opened on September 30.

Mr Malesela said they had created a whatsapp page called Kago Ya Leobo la Modipane, a facebook page - Modipane village and Modville news as communication platforms for reaching out.  He said their communication mediums have paid off as those working from far places were able to contact them and made contributions.

Cllr Malesela appreciated the young people’s voluntary spirit, citing Ms Gaone Kgosing who volunteered with her brand new stretch tent, Mr Bryan Motshware, an artist who is working on a portrait to be auctioned next month and a local disc jockey, Mr Tikologo Nkele.

Mr Molatlhegi Mokgosi scooped the grand prize, which was a goat, second price went to Ms Samantha Tlhaganeng who won herself a P500 grocery voucher while Mr Pele Dithologo won P200 worth of airtime. Ends
