Public servants key in ESP

03 Apr 2016

Permanent Secretary to the President (PSP), Mr Carter Morupisi, says public servants are key to successful implementation of the Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP).

In his address to public servants in Tsabong on Thursday, the PSP said employees should fully apply themselves and ensure successful implementation of all infrastructural developments and services under the programme.

“I therefore urge all of you to invest your energy and expertise in making ESP a success,” he said.

Mr Morupisi reminded public servants that ESP intended to stimulate the economy by way of supporting local businesses.

He therefore pleaded with procurement officers in different government departments to give priority to local businesses.

He said procurement of local goods was one of the key strategies necessary to stimulate economic growth.

The PSP expressed concern that a lot of money was spent on procurement of goods from outside the country annually; something he stated was not in synch with government initiatives such as Economic Diversification Drive (EDD) initiative.

For his part, the permanent secretary in the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Molefi Keaja said the initial phase of ESP under his ministry would give birth to construction of tribal administration offices in Zutshwa and Struizendam.

He said there was need for the District Development Committees (DDC) to be efficient and have decent structures for the programme to bear fruits. Ends
