31 Mar 2016

Kanye Administrative Authority chairperson, Mr Tlhomamo Dibeela has urged students to take their academic work seriously.

Mr Dibeela, who is also a councillor for Dilolwe ward, said this during the Department of Social and Community Development career fair held for Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) who completed Junior Certificate (JC) and Botswana General Certificate for Secondary Education (BGCSE) recently in Kanye.

He said it was only through hard work that students would do well in their studies. “Let me also take this opportunity to encourage you to desist from alcohol and drug abuse,” he said.

The department also used the fair to commend some of the orphans who managed to achieve above 40 points in their BGCSE examinations.

Among the top achievers were: Onkgopotse Gopane, Itumeleng Suping and Onnalenna Sengwaketse.

Speaking at the event, Gopane said through determination and hard work he managed to do well in his studies.

He urged his peers to emulate him by working hard in their studies.

The principal social welfare officer, Ms Georginah Ramosokwana said the main purpose of the programme was to prepare orphans and vulnerable children for tertiary life and in the process assist them to make correct career choices.

She said the programme would also sensitise students about sponsorship procedures. ENDS
