30 Mar 2016

BDF XI’s assistant coach, Nelson Setshwane, has departed for Hungary to attend an international coaching course.

Speaking in an interview, the club’s public relations officer, Thusang Jacob, said Major Setshwane would be away for two and half months effective March 23.

During his absence, Keikotlhae ‘Chamlek’ Botlhoko would assume the role hitherto.

“In promoting growth within our coaching structures, it is fundamental to continuously send our coaches to refresher courses to keep them abreast with the changing trends in footballing knowledge and techniques,” continued Captain Jacob.

Botlhoko used to play for Miscellaneous and Township Rollers.

He had a glamorous career with BDF XI, winning the league, coca cola cup, Mascom Top 8 and participating in CAF.

He holds a preliminary coaching certificate and the club felt he was the man for the job as he had the experience and had been with the club since joining them as a player and had been part of the technical team since hanging up his boots.

Management of Matebele believed that his understanding of the game accumulated over his entire playing career.

He also understood the culture of the club, which he would instill in the current crop of players'

Setshwane on one hand joined the military service as an officer cadet and he had played for the club until he retired and was appointed an assistant coach to the then head coach, Stanley Tshosane.

To his portfolio, he won the league three times, the Coca cola cup and the Mascom Top 8 Cup, all as a player and assistant coach.

Captain Jacob said the change would not affect the players since Botlhoko had always been drilling them alongside the assistant and head coach. ENDS
