Lack of road isolates Makalamabedi
23 Mar 2016
The Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Slumber Tsogwane has pleaded with President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama for the construction of the Makalamabedi/Motopi road.
Speaking during a kgotla meeting addressed by President Khama at Khumaga on Monday, Mr Tsogwane said the Makalamabedi/Motopi road was neglected and in a poor condition. He added that the road has relegated Makalamabedi to be a remote area, despite being near Motopi, Maun and Rakops.
He said due to the bad road condition, there was no public transport and rendering the village to be isolated.
Mr Tsogwane, who acknowledged the shortage of funds in government coffers, pleaded with President Khama for the construction of a bridge at Moremaoto to ease the movement of people from Moremaoto to Francistown, saying they were at times compelled to use the Motopi route.
On other issues, Mr Tsogwane who is also the Member of Parliament for Boteti West, implored Khumaga residents to work together to make their village a tourist destination. He said the village has missed out on tourism opportunities because of residents differences, citing the trust that took years to materialise because of the differences of residents.
During the same meeting the Minister of Youth, Sport and Culture, Mr Thapelo Olopeng told Khumaga residents that the youth office at Rakops was not closed as previously reported.
Earlier, residents had complained that the youth office at Rakops has closed, and that they were forced to travel to Letlhakane to seek services rendered to the youth. Ends
