Ministry donates to students

22 Mar 2016

The Ministry of Environment, Wildlife and Tourism in collaboration with Botswana Tourism Organisation (BTO) held a community service day at Kaudwane on Friday where they also donated school shoes to pupils at Kaudwane Primary School.

Speaking on behalf of the ministry’s permanent secretary, the deputy manager for administration, Ms Pauline Tsiang said the donation comes after the school head pleaded with them to come to the assistance of her school as pupils in the area go to school barefooted, something she said affects them especially during the winter season.

She said the donation would go a long way in ensuring that pupils focus on their education for a better future. She urged other good samaritans to emulate the ministry and nurture the spirit of compassion as advocated by President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama.

For his part, the principal education officer for Letlhakeng sub region, Mr Keineele Pogiso expressed gratitude over the support they receive from parents in Kaudwane, saying they normally take part in their children’s education.

He said this would assist them in striving to achieve the 80 per cent pass rate they have set for themselves as a region this year. He said Kaudwane Primary School recorded 68 percentage pass in last year’s Primary School Leaving Examinations, a slight drop from 77.8 per cent recorded in 2014.

Mr Pogiso, however, complained of pupils who drop out of school. He said they were addressing the challenge as they normally follow them up to get them back to school. He also complained about parents who do not register their children to start school, and advised them to seek assistance from the government when they were in need.

The public relations manager for BTO, Ms Keitumetse Setlang said the donation was the beginning of long term relations between them and Kaudwane Primary School.

She said the donation was their answer to the plea by the President to extend a helping hand to the needy and underprivileged. Ends
