The Member of Parliament for Gaborone North, Mr Haskins Nkaigwa, has thanked government for construction of Phakalane/Glen Valley link road.
Giving a vote of thanks at the launch of the project yesterday, Mr Nkaigwa appealed to his constituents to embrace the new development, which was undertaken under the Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP).
The road, he said, was a positive milestone, which would change the lives of many.
He said Phakalane Estate should also enjoy its share of development and as such thanked Minister of Lands and Housing, Mr Maele for having come to Phakalane residents’ rescue especially that councillors and MPs having been calling for construction of the road.
He, however, said through perseverance, they remained hopeful and had entirely placed their hopes on the strength of God, adding that the road would enhance economic activities in the area.
Mr Nkaigwa further praised government for having thought of Phakalane when it started to roll out projects under ESP in the city and therefore called for more development in the constituency under the same programme particularly that the city was growing towards Gaborone North.
“If you have not seen miracles, today we are witnessing miracles happening in Gaborone North by the construction of this road, which will also ensure an end to dust that has been troubling Glen Valley farmers and residents”, he said.
Mr Nkaigwa said as a people’s representative, he was happy when government acceded to their requests, something which he said strengthened him and further called for other roads leading to Phakalane to be tarred.
He said at the moment if there could be a major accident in the morning just before Phakalane turn-off, government officials and other stakeholders would be late for work as there was bound to be a lot of traffic jam because they use the current dusty short cut, which according to minister Maele will cost the government P51.3 million and take six months to construct.
The construction of this road which will also have an overlay of 2.5 km is undertaken by a citizen constructor, which minister Maele said was also an empowerment to local companies will create jobs to 80 people.
