The Vice President, Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi  on Friday March 18 expressed appreciation for the “goodwill and kind gesture” of Kobe Trading for donating an ambulance to the Ministry of Health.

Mr Masisi said the donation epitomises the tenets of Botswana national vision and reflects the benevolence that Batswana have for each other.

He stated that the ambulance donation to the government of Botswana was impelled by Kobe Trading desire to assist in addressing one of the major challenges faced by the health sector.

Mr Masisi appealed to the private sector to assist in addressing some of the challenges arguing that government cannot do it alone.

He commended the Kobe Trading company for their support to government initiatives and for providing good quality health care services to Botswana.

He also called upon other members of the private sector to replicate Kobe Trading generosity

Mr Masisi further said the donation is timely as Botswana clinics are faced with many challenges saying the gesture would boost the morale of nurses, improve service delivery something which he said would be greatly appreciated by patients.

He also thanked the company for offering to maintain the ambulance and provide spare parts for its first year.

For his part, the managing director of Kobe Trading Mr Mohamed Asman stated that they donated as part of their social responsibility.

Mr Asman said they wanted to donate something that could be useful in a day to the life of a Motswana.

The Assistant Minister of Health Dr Alfred Madigele stated that the donation of an ambulance comes at a great time as his ministry has started coordinating emergency medical services whose mandate is to respond to emergencies and road crashes in as short period of time to reduce deaths and injuries.

Dr Madigele said the donation by Kobe Trading would go a long way in assisting them to provide amongst other things post-crash emergency response to victims of road traffic accidents.

He mentioned that according to the prevention of road traffic accidents through effective partnership 2015 symposium, post –crash response is one of the areas that need to be strengthened

Dr Madigele stated that the ministry does not only deal with road traffic accidents but that they deal with other types of trauma like stabs, assaults as well as emergencies arising from both communicable and non-communicable diseases.  Ends
