The Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Slumber Tsogwane has called for stakeholders to combine efforts to achieve best results in the North West District.
Minister Tsogwane noted that the North West region continues to have challenges that hamper service delivery. He was speaking at the NWDC staff awards in Maun on Friday.
“North West District Council continues to face different challenges on the implementation of our core mandate which is excellence in service delivery,” he said. Minister Tsogwane observed that the North West region had many remote areas hence was not attractive to many employees and that lack of human resources remained a challenge.
He therefore said a collective support system would have a long way in achieving positive results.
The minister also challenged public officers to be innovative and creative in seeking solutions to challenges faced. “We must build resilient communities that can help themselves and that can help the government,” he said.
Minister Tsogwane urged officers to reflect on the impact of their contribution to communities and what they had to leave behind.
Furthermore, he commended the NWDC for projects planned through the Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP). He noted that ESP was a new strategic agenda which cuts through all government institutions and promoted the spirit of thinking and acting differently.
He pointed out that the government intensified efforts in social development in communities. Minister Tsogwane said the ESP was one of the programme which the government targeted to advance economic growth by fast-tracking economic development.
Minister Tsogwane commended the prize winners to continue to serve as patriots and all to work harder. He said the awards were an incentive to the individuals and departments that worked an extra mile and a motivator for non-recipients. Ends
