Tatolo on mission to clean Gaborone

21 Mar 2016

Environmental reporter at Radio Botswana, Mr Benny Tatolo, has undertaken a clean-up campaign around some areas in Gaborone towards BOT50 independence celebrations.

Mr Tatolo said his initiative was geared towards cleaning the city in preparation for this year’s independence.

His target was a minimum of 50 litter bags per every litter picking day.

Mr Tatolo said they had engaged schools to assist in this endeavour but this weekend they could not employ the services of students as they were writing examinations.

“At the moment, we are working in collaboration with Gaborone City Council who upon completion of litter picking the council immediately collect refuse for disposal at the landfill,” he said.

Mr Tatolo encouraged  society to employ the concept of 3Rs being recycling, reduce and reuse in order to ensure that the city remained clean until independence and beyond, adding that they should use black plastic back and place litter in all available dust bins for easy collection.

He said  the collection of litter would extend to Tlokweng border road Airport road and all roads entering Gaborone so that tourist would  be coming in large numbers at independence.

He said the collection, which was around Riverwalk Mall, went well with the assistance of students from Limkokwing Wildlife Environmental Conservation Society Students (WAECS) who volunteered their services to partake in this initiative.

Representative of WAECS who is also a student at Limkokwing University of Creative Technology Mr Vhanuele Vray said as Botswana is turning 50 years this year, they as students of Limkokwing University found it paramount to contribute something towards the independence celebration thus cleaning up the city became inevitable to them.
