Sixty wed in Lerala
20 Mar 2016
The Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso, has commended Re A Nyalana organisation for ensuring dignity and stability on couples and their children.
Speaking during a marriage solemnisation ceremony of 60 couples in Lerala organised by Re A Nyalana recently, Ms Tshireletso said through the initiative, the nation was being reminded of challenges experienced by cohabiting couples.
Re A Nyalana, she said, would assist in addressing some of these challenges that included passion killings. However, Ms Tshireletso said the initiative was a great step towards the country’s desire to restore moral integrity by recognizing marriage as a sacred institution.
Ms Tshireletso said government had designed policies and programmes aimed at improving the livelihoods of Batswana.
She said it was through efforts of societies such as Re A Nyalana that the gaps in the implementation of such policies would be addressed.
“I want to assure you that all efforts which are directed towards strengthening sound social values are highly recognised by the government”, she said.
Ms Tshireletso said Re A Nyalana bridged the gap between the affluent and less privileged as the latter will be accorded an opportunity to marry their beloved ones.
The coordinator of Re A Nyalana, Ms Anna Morwaagole, said their project was an attempt to address the ills that had plagued society with intention to create harmony.
She said assisting cohabiting couples to conclude marriage procedures would go a long way in bringing back stability within the family.
To date, Ms Morwaagole said, they had managed to conduct 15 workshops in 10 districts and 2 040 marriages had been solemnised across the country.
Kgosi Sello Moroka of Lerala thanked Re A Nyalana coordinator for the initiative.
He said chiefs were inundated with matters of inheritance whenever one of the cohabiting partners dies without a will.
He said in a lot of cases, children were on the losing side when their surname differed from that of the deceased. Ends
