Nanogang JSS celebrates historic achievement

20 Mar 2016

The Vice President, Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi, has challenged Nanogang Junior Secondary School students to aim to be at par with learners from countries that are known to produce best students such as Japan and China.

Nanogang topped in the 2015 Junior Certificate results with an 82.9 per cent.

The school, on Friday, celebrated this historic achievement and 11 top achievers who obtained grade A were awarded certificates and gifts.

The Vice President said this was indeed a historic moment because no school had ever achieved the 82.9 per cent mark in JC results.

Mr Masisi stated that the school had maintained a good record over the years staying amongst the top in the whole country.

The VP said the current crop of students had made history hence challenging them to carry on the legacy and also take their children to Nanogang in many years to come.

“You have demonstrated consistence, resilience and you continue to build Botswana hence achieving a goal of an informed and educated nation.”

He urged the youngsters to stay away from activities that could put their lives at risk.

Mr Masisi said thanked parents for raising and moulding the children. He commended teachers who worked hard to maintain consistency at the school.

“Nanogang you have become a premium and superior brand, start being picky and associate with only the best.”

Nanogang school head, Ms Baitse Kebobone, stated that the performance was fitting to be celebrated as this was a record breaking academic performance.

Ms Kebobone said in 2014, they came in position four with 70.1 per cent adding that it had always been the school’s dream to be position one.

She assured that even next year, they would be celebrating good results again because they believed in consistence and quality.

“Lets continue working as a team so that we can protect our children from many social ills that seem to be stealing many innocent children out there,” she noted.

She concurred that Nanogang was a brand and a school of excellence, therefore called on people to associate themselves with the school.

One of the top achievers, Thuto Obuseng, thanked the Nanogang community for nurturing them.

She encouraged fellow students to keep working hard and show determination so as to realise their dreams.

“Everyone should have dreams, we have been given opportunities and it is upon us to grab them and use them to the best of our abilities.”

Thuto highlighted that the 11 of them worked hard and did not complain about studying because they were focused on being the best.

The 11 students received prize money from Botswana Savings Bank each pocketing P2 500 from the bank and P250 each from the school. Ends
