Four primary schools, Joseph Anderson, Tebogo, Reuben Mpabanga and Lapologang in Selebi Phikwe West constituency have started pre-primary programmes.

Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Frans Van Der Westhuizen said Joseph Anderson has three classes with two qualified teachers and one temporary qualified teacher.

Lapologang, he said, has two classes with two qualified teachers; Tebogo has two classes with one qualified teacher and one temporary teacher while Reuben Mpabanga has three classes with three qualified teachers.
The assistant minister said there were no unqualified teachers employed in all four schools and that there were two teachers recruited from the mainstream at Reuben Mpabanga.

He told Parliament that the type of learning and other facilities that were in short supply include both furniture and indoor materials.

“Currently, tables and chairs in short supply are being procured and expected to be delivered starting the week of 21st March 2016. Furthermore, Jumbo Crayons and floor mats would be supplied for reception classes during the week starting 21st March 2016 including exercise books, teaspoons and rubbers,” he said.

The MP for Selebi-Phikwe West, Mr Dithapelo Keorapetse wanted the minister to state the number and names of primary schools in his constituency where the pre-school programme was being piloted, and schools with qualified pre-school teachers employed either on permanent or temporary basis.

The MP also wanted to know which type of learning and other facilities (teaching materials, equipment and furniture) are needed but in short supply.  Ends
