Councillors council secretary sour relations not ideal Ketshogile

Councillor for Lerala East, Mr Kabo Ketshogile has described the relationship between Central District Council (CDC) councillors and the Council Secretary’s (SC) office as sour.
Debating the CDC chairperson, Mr Peter Williams’s speech recently, Mr Ketshogile said the unpleasant relationship affects service delivery of the council and eventually electorates.
Mr Ketshogile, who warned Mr William that Jesus was betrayed by one of his disciples, called for the transfer of the council secretary from the district before their electorates suffer, adding that councillors and the chairperson could not be transferred from the region.
The councillor for Newtown ward in Serowe, Mr Bethuel Botumile noted that several issues were not included in the chairperson’s speech citing pre-school progress issues.
He said it should have been part of the speech as it was introduced in most government schools recently.
Mr Botumile expressed displeasure about the failure to procure furniture and teaching materials for reception classes within the Central District which were budgeted for.
He said the council has failed and that the accounting officer should take the blame because the funds and human resource were available.
The failure, he said, painted the government with a bad brush, adding that people would think the government was not prepared to introduce pre-schools.
The delay in the tendering and procurement process, he said, raised eye brows, adding that the tender was left to elapse last year.
Mr Botumile said the tender was left to elapse in order to allow companies and individuals that have interest to take part.
He said if anyone impedes on the efficiency of the CDC that person should be put aside.
He further said the tendering process in the CDC should be looked with a close eye, alleging that they might be corrupt practices going on.
The councillor for Mmaphashalala/Pallaroad, Mr Mareko Morongwane also said the tendering process in the council should be investigated, pointing out that there was one tender that was awarded, but that delivery never took place.
“One tender was awarded to supply Kodibeleng region schools with furniture, but the delivery never took place,” he said. Ends
