Botswana women off to Mauritius

15 Mar 2016

The senior women football team left for Mauritius yesterday for the CAF Africa Women Cup of Nations second leg encounter billed for Saturday.

Botswana clobbered Mauritius 6-0 a fortnight ago in Lobatse.

Now, coach Gaolethoo Nkutlwisang and her girls need to go there and enjoy their game, but should exercise caution.

Nkutlwisang is aware that Mauritius are capable of turning the tables against Botswana.

Therefore, she did not leave anything to chance but travelled with a strong team that incluided Nondi Mahlasela, captain Bonang ‘Bebeto’ Otlhagile, Bame Ngenda, and Golebaone Selebatso.

Nkutlwisang said before their departure that the team was fired up to meet the Mauritian girls in their own turf.

Her game plan would be to attack them in the first minutes of the game, score early goals to unsettle them. She said, if no threats, she would then introduce new blood to give them more game time.

“We are travelling with a very strong team and are going to come with very good results because we have prepared very well and are solid as a team, she said.

Otlhagile said during their first leg with Mauritius, for the first 15 minute, they observed them after which they launched attack after attack hence they managed to score an avalanche of goals.

She said their mission was to continue where they left off with Mauritius because they wanted to proceed to the next round where they would play against South Africa.

Otlhagile said their Saturday encounter will be a totally different ball game and their victory was now history hence she talked to the girls to now focus on the game.

“We are not resting on our laurels because anything is possible in football.

If we managed to beat them 6-0 what can stop them from scoring more goals against us”, she said.

Another player Bame Ngenda, said she was confident that given the opportunity to start with the game she would bang goals.

Ngenda, who was introduced as a substitute in their last game and scored a beauty, said she managed to study her opponents style of play hence she was salivating to start the game.

For Nondi Mahlasela, who scored a brace against Mauritius, said they learnt a lot from the previous game and their aim was to proceed to the next round of the tournament.

She said to her, the Saturday game would be a new one, adding that the team’s strikers had vowed to score all goals so that they put Botswana in a good map. Ends
