14 Mar 2016
Assistant Minister of Education and Skills Development, Mr Fidelis Molao was expected back yesterday from Dubai where he attended the fourth annual Global Education and Skills Forum (GESF) .
A press release from the ministry states that Mr Molao left the country for the forum last Friday.
The release states that the GESF is an annual conference organised by the Varkey Foundation, a non-profit organisation established to improve standards of education for underprivileged children throughout the world.
It also states that the general objective of the conference is to bring together world leaders from the public, private and social sectors to work towards education, equity and employment for all.
It says that the theme seeks ways to making education everyone’s business, reconcile relevance, excellence and inclusiveness of both public and private learning environments through collective responsibility by politicians, business leaders, teaching profession and the media.
Meanwhile, the release says over the past two decades, education systems in many countries have come under increased scrutiny.
It also adds that many feel they are failing to deliver the quality desperately needed and have become beholden to special interest, whether those of election focused politicians, teacher organisations or the business sector. Ends
