BHC hands over houses to Prisons
14 Mar 2016
The chief executive officer of Botswana Housing Corporation (BHC), Mr Reginald Motswaiso says his corporation is committed to delivering housing solutions to its clients.
Speaking at the handing over of eight multi-residential housing units to Botswana Prisons and Rehabilitation Services , Mr Motswaiso said BHC consistently and confidently assists government institutions and the private sector on issues related to housing development and management.
He called upon other institutions to partner with BHC to address the accommodation needs of their employees.
“I would like to encourage other institutions to look no further should they require professional management services for anything relating to construction which is our area of focus,” he said.
Regarding the project, Mr Motswaiso said it was carried out at a cost of P7million and that it awarded to a 100 per cent wholly citizen owned construction company to encourage citizen economic empowerment.
He, however, explained that due to the failure to deliver the project on time, the remaining works of the project were subcontracted and that the project was completed within the agreed time.
Receiving the housing units, the Commissioner of Prisons and Rehabilitation Services, Mr Silas Motlalekgosi said for employees of any organisation to be productive, there was need for dignity which starts with having proper accommodation.
Mr Motlalekgosi said the provision of housing was core to ensuring the welfare of officers, adding that staff welfare should not be confused with remuneration.
He said any officer who has accommodation and was sure that his family was safe while on duty was bound to perform as expected.
He thanked BHC for the project and advised contractors to always double check their work to avoid unhappy customers and negatively affecting their relationship.
The project was started in October 2014 and was expected to be completed in a period of 32 weeks, but could not due to the challenges encountered with the initial contractor.
The Francistown project is the third to be handed over as last year nine staff houses were handed over in Mahalaye and 10 houses were handed over in Gaborone to the Botswana Prisons and Rehabilitation Services. Ends
